And the WINNER of the first annual Teacher’s Discovery toothpick bridge building contest is…..

Mrs. Wycoff’s fifth grade science class from A.L. Price Elementary School in Beaumont, Texas!  The bridge was completely designed by the students and is made entirely from toothpicks and glue.  This was a very fun and challenging contest that was ultimately judged on creativity and design.  The bridge only had to be strong enough to carry one soda can, but this bridge can carry dozens because of its strength of design.

Wycoff’s elementary class competed against elementary, middle school and high school students from across the country.

“We had hundreds of contest entries and are proud to announce that the students from A.L. Price Elementary have won $500 in science educational products for their class!” Nick Marturano, director of science for Teacher’s Discovery said.

The contest was hosted by Teacher’s Discovery, a 30-year-old educational supply and publishing company from Auburn Hills, Michigan.

“We wanted to do something cool and educational for the students.  This nationwide project allowed students to familiarize themselves with the engineering of a bridge, and allowed them to learn while they had fun.” Marturano said.
